The Jinnah Sindh Medical Universities came into existence on 1st June 2012 and the act of university was passed by Sindh assembly on 18 march 2013 as a result of exhausting and sincere efforts of SMC Alumni. The University is rapidly progressing due to its strong academic grounds. It is among the high ranking universities of the country based on its performance, transparent admission process, best teaching system, and authentic examination department.

The Department of Medical Education was established on priority realizing its need for medical institution. The main function of this department is teaching, career reforms, faculty capacity building . The scope ranges from under graduate, post graduate and health professionals and to promote concept of lifelong learning, leading to better prevention in the community. As PMDC has made CPD/ CME a mandatory requirement for the renewal of license to practice. Importance Of credit Hours and updating knowledge of doctors has been globally accepted and also been approved by all the Medical councils.

The need for developing programs for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continuous Medical Education(CME)was realized by the university and Our Vice chancellor Prof. Dr Syed Muhammad Tariq Rafi who was very keen towards professional development. The Jinnah Sindh Medical University Launches its first official CME program on 23rd April 2015 .The CPD/CME are essentials for health professionals to meet their professional standard . There is a regular CME session every Thursday at Fatima Engineer Mini Auditorium at JSMU. The registration is mandatory. These sessions are designed to cover the needs of the health professionals in providing better health care to the community. The Doctrine of patient "deserves the best “has to be realized and health professionals are updating their selves through these Continuous Medical Education sessions.
